Position Overview


Role Summary:


Jake's Inventory Control Manager is accountable for protecting one of our largest assets, inventory, and ensuring its accuracy.   He/she will work cross-functionally with other leaders to minimize inventory losses resulting from damage, shortage, spoilage, theft, and inaccuracy.  Manager will lead and direct the activities of a small team.


Position Responsibilities


The core responsibilities of the Inventory Control Manager include but not limited to:

  • Develop, document, implement, and reinforce company policies and standard operating procedures to accurately record and protect inventory and to achieve loss and service level goals.
  • Serve as a business partner and adviser to warehouse, transportation, purchasing, sales and finance functions.
  • Lead regular, cross-functional leadership meetings to address inventory issues and proactively engage in best inventory practices to continuously improve our stewardship of inventory.
  • Create a winning team leading, developing, and training team members.
  • Develop and produce reporting and insights to inform decisions, drive actions, and achieve goals.
  • Establish a culture of stewardship, urgency, accountability, and care for our inventory.


Other Duties

  • Establish the methodology, structure, and timing to effectively cycle count our inventory.
  • Set up standard routines for exception counts and research based on data (cuts, shorts, out-of-date, high value, high risk of error or theft, etc.)
  • Leverage existing technologies and explore additional technologies including analytics to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of inventory controls.
  • Provide consistent root cause and process analysis on larger adjustments and impacts to service level.
  • Ensure physical safeguards are in place to control and protect inventory.
  • Perform regular walkarounds to visually inspect and document observations to ensure compliance with expected policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Inspect work performed by others to ensure understanding of expectations and accuracy.
  • Observe, reinforce, and support all safety and compliance expectations including FSMA, OSHA, HACCP, and any other governmental guidelines.
  • Work closely with purchasing to effectively handle all product recalls and returns to vendors.

Experience and Education


Education and Experience Required:

  • High school degree with at least five (5) years of progressive experience in warehousing or inventory control, or
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, supply chain management, management information systems, industrial engineering, mathematics, or similar degree with sufficient experience.
  • Industry experience in foodservice distribution or wholesale distribution a plus
